Find here a brief overview:
Monday, 14th May 2018: Tech on me
The first evening is dedicated to technology and how it helps to understand or even fix the human body. Dr. Maria Asplund (University of Freiburg) will talk about her approach to accelerate the healing of skin wounds through electrical stimulation. Dr. Jörg Büscher (MPI of Immunobiology and Epigenetics, Freiburg) dives deep into sewage water system and is not only able to tell which drug spikes in the water systems days after a music festival. By using the same technology he usually dives deep into the cell and helps to understand our cellular metabolism. More
Tuesday, 15th May 2018: Cell food
On Tuesday, Dr. Nina Cabezas-Wallscheid, Prof. Edward Pearce and Dr. Andrew Pospisilik will explore the very basic mechanisms of the human body. The three researchers from the MPI of Immunobiology and Epigenetics will show how cutting-edge research answers some of the most urgent questions in science today. The audience will find out how lifestyle influences the function of stem cells, what fuels immune cells to fight against infections and if DNA can change through epigenetics, even after we were born. More
Wednesday, 16th May 2018: Mind you head
On the final night, Prof. Marco Prinz (Uniklinik Freiburg) and Prof. Andreas Vlachos (University of Freiburg) will lead in a journey into the most complex machine in the world – the brain. The audience will discover with Marco Prinz how the brain protects itself from injury and explore with Andreas Vlachos the remarkable ability of the human brain to respond to stimuli with lasting adaptations that are relevant for essential brain functions, such as learning and memory.
