Administration
The administration of the MPI-IE supports the research groups and scientific infrastructure and seeks to ensure optimal conditions for science at the institute. It handles and coordinates all issues regarding finances, personnel, purchasing as well as safety, utilities management, caretaker service, travel reimbursement, maintenance and repair and focuses on meeting the needs of the institutes' international community of scientists and guests.

The Head of Administration oversees all administrative, non-scientific organizational aspects of the institute. These include in particular the areas of personnel, finance and accounting, purchasing, IT and facility management. The core task is to ensure a demand-oriented and cost-efficient organizational structures and processes as well as reliable infrastructures for the operation of the institute. In addition, the Head of Administration advises and supports the institute’s management in all administrative matters and issues related to its area of responsibility.

The department of Finance and Accounting/Controlling is responsible for all tasks required to ensure legally compliant management of the institute’s financial budget. The central task is to plan the overall budget at the beginning of the fiscal year and ensure that the budget is adhered to. In regular meetings, the department employees discuss all relevant financial topics with the relevant institute’s cost center managers.

The Human Resources team is the central point of contact at the Institute for all questions that may arise in the context of the employment relationship. To this end, it works closely with the Max Planck Society and provides information on new developments and changes in this area. Moreover, it helps other offices such as the International Office, the Gender Equality Office, or the IMPRS Office in offering further education and training options and reconciliation family life and work measures.

The institute’s facility management is responsible for the continuous operational availability of the technical infrastructure and the management of the campus buildings. This includes, in particular, coordination of maintenance and repair of technical equipment and installations as well as cleaning and repair of the buildings. In addition, the team also takes care of office and laboratory relocations and supports employees in all technical matters. In two workshops for metal construction and precision mechanics, many custom-made products can be commissioned.
