Scientific Coordination
The Scientific Coordinator, Dr. Johanna Knipper, is providing a bridge between science, administration and the Max Planck Society shaping an optimal environment for excellent research at the institute. In this role Dr. Knipper is responsible for an extensive variety of services, ranging from providing decision bases for the management, organising strategic recruitments and onboarding of new research groups. She takes part in management board meetings and assists the managing director in scientific administrative tasks, among them internal as well as external communication, reporting requirements, and liaising with the Scientific Advisory Board and the Board of Trustees. In this capacity, the Scientific Coordinator also interacts with the Max Planck Society headquarters in Munich and with local, national and international network partners.
The Scientific Coordinator also collaborates closely with the Head of Administration on management issues, budgeting and HR-related tasks. She implements key measures and new initiatives to improve the overall running of the Institute and deals with topics of general interest for all scientific employees. Therefore, the Scientific Coordinator works in close collaboration with the Communication Department, the EU Liaison officer, the International Officer and the Coordinator of the IMPRS-IEM Ph.D. program.
Dr. Knipper is an Alumna from the University of Edinburgh and has a background in Immunology and Infection Research.
